Patricia A. Newton, MD, MA, MPH, is a psychiatrist,
behavioral scientist, and President and Medical Director of Newton and Associates. Her background and training includes
having received her medical degree from the Washington University School of Medicine, an MA in Molecular Biology from the
George Peabody College of Vanderbilt University, as well as an MPH from John Hopkins School of Public Health and Hygiene.
Dr. Newton has
also worked internationally with psychiatrists in the US, Africa, and the Caribbean, pioneering new techniques for the chronic
mentally ill, as well as culturally appropriate approaches to the global HIV/AIDS epidemic. Her innovations includes techniques
used in the field of chemical dependency treatment and prevention, having her work embraced internationally, including in
Great Britain, Africa, the Caribbean, and the US—places where she has also lectured widely.
She has contributed vital international leadership
to numerous organizations in which she holds membership: for example, Black Psychiatrists of America, Inc., and the Association
for the Study of Classical African Civilization. She has also been enstooled—honored with the position of Chief—as
the Dompiahene, Agogo Traditional Area, Ghana, being known as Nana Akosua Akyaa. She is also the author of many publications,
including the highly acclaimed Spring 2007 book release, Post Traumatic Slavery Disorder.
